TURF LOCKS HOTEL
The Turf Locks is a very pleasant public house and hotel situated alongside Exeter Canal, running parellel to the River Exe. The building was built by James Green in the 1820's, he also built the nearby Double Locks. There were stables at the Locks, which probably housed the horses used to pull barges along the 5 mile length of canal.It can be reached on foot, if you are up to a 5 mile walk from Exeter Quayside, by using either bank. It is also a popular cycle route. The most pleasurable way to reach the Turf Locks Hotel is by boat. You could hire your own canoe from the Quayside, of Walk a little further along the Exe estuary, you can get to Powderham, or cross over the water to Topsham.
