How the CD works
The CD operates in two ways. Firstly as an automatic slideshow, which takes you through 300+ scenes of Exeter. You can alter the length of time it takes to display each photograph, and use various wipe effects to switch between them - then sit back and watch.

Secondly you can load any of the photographs into a paint program, add your own captions, crop, resize and of course print. There are no restrictions on printing these photographs for your own private use. In addition to the photographs in the main slideshow, there is also an 'Extras' directory which contains additional photographs – there are another 500 to see!

Note, you may also view these photographs on a DVD/TV system, which is capable of reading JPEG files.

Why a CD on Exeter?
I am aware that there are a wide range of sources of photographs of Exeter. Being a historical town, so much has been written and photographed already. Websites provide plenty of information and photographs, useful even before you have entered the city, generally though the quality of the web pictures are not suitable for producing photographic prints. This is the first CD ROM available, and it aims to be a valuable souvenir to take back, and hopefully for you to share with others.

Technical Information
All photographs on this CD were taken with Fuji Digital Cameras, at resolutions up to 6 megapixels, and are saved as JPEG files, with minimal compression. This is absolutely fine for display on a standard PC monitor. It is also fine for prints on a photo-printer up to A4 size, without any noticable loss of quality - in fact prints of these photographs have in the past been sold framed in local Exeter Gift Shops, used in glossy magazines and brochures and so on (see Licensing). Actual file sizes range from 500k - 2.5Mb.
